We haven't tried this yet.

It is possible to run Firefox from a CD. And it is also possible to sign webpage and scripts so they can launch native applications.

Here are some links: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=518604&p=2741292 http://www.mozilla.org/projects/security/components/signed-scripts.html

The reasons this might be nice:

  • it can use full html/css/javascript to make a very powerful interface which is very familiar to lots of developers
  • the runtime is smaller than the Java runtime. Because Windows doesn't have Java installed, it needs to be run from the CD on windows, if Java is used as the runtime for the CD Launcher.
